Can Omega-3 Really Improve Your Vision?
Topics: What are the main Omega-3 vision benefits? Can it really improve your eyesight?
Good intake of Omega 3 with diet or supplementation can improve your vision but perhaps in a way you might not expect.
First let's review what Omega 3 can not do... There is no evidence than any diet modification or supplementation can change your prescription. In clinic, it is common for patients to confuse their eyeglass prescription with the health of the eyes. "My prescription keeps going up! I am going to be blind!" Eye health and prescription are generally independent variables so any eye health supplement will not alter prescription or a refractive condition like myopia, presbyopia, hyperopia or astigmatism.
Omega 3 intake will not alter cataract, or Macular degeneration (AMD) progression. The jury is our whether Omega 3 can reduce risk of developing cataracts or AMD but it certainly will not slow or reverse progression.
What can Omega-3 do for your vision... EPA and DHA is very good at improving the function of oil glands around your eyes through anti-inflammatory and other actions. Beyond making your eyes feel better through reduced dry eye symptomology, you will note more stable vision. Less "blinking to clear" a computer screen or phone.
